When it cannot wait

Plumbing Emergencies

What should I do first in a plumbing emergency?
Shut off the water at the main valve, usually at the front of the house near the hose bib or in a box near the street. If water is near anything electrical, shut off the breaker and stay clear, then call (561) 512-2828.
Is a leaking water heater an emergency?
If water is pooling at the base of the tank, treat it as urgent. Close the supply valve on top of the heater and call us.
Sewage is backing up through a shower drain. What does that mean?
A main sewer line blockage. Stop running water in the house and call us. It will get worse rather than clear on its own.

Repairs and local conditions

Common Plumbing Questions

Should I repair or replace my water heater?
Repair usually makes sense for a failed element, thermostat or valve. Replacement is the better option when the tank is leaking, when the unit is past ten years old, or after repeated repairs.
How do I know if I have a slab leak?
Common signs are a warm spot on the floor, a water bill that has risen with no change in use, and the sound of running water when everything is off.
What causes a sewer line backup?
Most often wipes that do not break down, tree roots entering older clay or cast iron lines, grease buildup, or a sag or break in the pipe.
Do I need to repipe my home?
Usually not for a single failed section. Repiping becomes the better value after repeated leaks in the same system, or when pressure and water quality have declined throughout the house.
